Glasgow 2014: Peng Soon-Pei Jing, Jing Yi falter in semis

Glasgow: On Saturday, Malaysia’s Tee Jing Yi was defeated by Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland 13-21, 19-21 in the semi-finals at the Emirates Arena. Jing Yi inexplicably squandered a big 19-11 lead in the second game allowing Gilmour to come back to win game two.

“Kirsty came well prepared, I made some unnecessary mistakes in second set and just couldn’t finish the game,” said the disappointed Jing Yi. In last week’s mixed team event, Jing Yi was able to down Gilmour in straight sets.

Glasgow 2014: P. Kashyap vs Derek Wong in final

Glasgow: Rashid Sidek, Wong Choong Hann, Mohd Hafiz Hashim and Lee Chong Wei have created the Malaysia badminton dynasty that garnered 6 men’s singles gold medals consecutively since the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games. However, the men’s singles gold medal chase was left wide open with the exit of Chong Wei Feng and Daren Liew in quarter-finals on Friday.

Glasgow 2014: Chong Wei Feng & Daren Liew crash out

Glasgow: Malaysia’s hope to defend the Commonwealth Games men’s singles title took a hit on Friday when Chong Wei Feng and Daren Liew both lost to their Indian opponents respectively.

The 2012 French Open champion Daren Liew suffered his round of 8 loss to world number 22 Parupalli Kashyap of India 13-21, 14-21 in a match that lasted 38 minutes; while Chong Wei Feng managed to stay afloat to force a deciding game, he struggled against the 24 year-old R. M. V. Gurusaidutt of India the entire third set and eventually lost to the Indian 15-21, 21-8, 17-21.

Glasgow 2014: Sindhu, Kashyap,Gurusaidutt reach semis

Glasgow: Second seed Parupalli Kashyap and PV Sindhu, RMV Gurusaidutt as well as defending champions Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa notched up quarter-finals wins at the Emirates Arena on Friday. But fourth seed Kidambi Srikanth and sixth seed P.C. Thulasi had to bite the dust as their campaigns came to an end.

Glasgow 2014: 6 of 8 Malaysian shuttlers progress to the quarters

Glasgow: National singles Chong Wei Feng who was given the task to step into the shoes of injured Datuk Lee Chong Wei stayed on track to win the men’s single gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. He has put on a clinic in the round of 16 to brush aside Tony Stephenson from Northern Ireland 21-15, 21-10. He will play R.M.V Gurusaidutt from India in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Glasgow 2014: Indian shuttlers cruise to final 16

Glasgow: Indian medal contenders, P.V. Sindhu and P.C. Thulasi in women’s singles and R.M.V. Gurusaidutt, Kidambi Srikanth and Parupalli Kashyap notched up easy victories in the women’s and men’s singles events respectively to storm into the round of 16 of the badminton competition at the 20th Commonwealth Games on Wednesday.

Glasgow 2014: Goh V Shem-Lim Yin Loo falters, other Malaysian advance

Glasgow: The mixed doubles scratch pair of Goh V Shem-Lim Yin Loo was the only Malaysian that didn’t make it to the round of 16 at Commonwealth Games’ individual badminton events on Wednesday. They suffered a hard-fought, 21-15, 14-21, 14-21 loss to world number 13 Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier of Scotland in 58 minutes. Blair-Bankier will play Terry Hee-Fu Mingtian of Singapore tomorrow.

Glasgow 2014: One down, more to go for Malaysia

Glasgow: Malaysia shuttlers showed great spirit in the first round of badminton individual events after winning gold medal in yesterday’s mixed team event.

Chong Wei Feng who had a bye in the first round, will play Buwaneka Dullewa of Sri Lanka in the second round. Wei Feng felt relief to win a crucial point for Malaysia in the mixed team final.

Glasgow: In a thrilling third place play-off, Singapore clinched the bronze medal in the badminton mixed team event with a 3-2 win over India at The Emirates Arena.

In the opening match, mixed doubles pair of Vanessa Neo and Danny Chrisnanta fought hard before winning 21-19-, 21-19 over R.M.V Gurusaidutt and Ashwini Ponnappa of India to hand Singapore an early 1-0 lead.
