Glasgow: In a thrilling third place play-off, Singapore clinched the bronze medal in the badminton mixed team event with a 3-2 win over India at The Emirates Arena.

In the opening match, mixed doubles pair of Vanessa Neo and Danny Chrisnanta fought hard before winning 21-19-, 21-19 over R.M.V Gurusaidutt and Ashwini Ponnappa of India to hand Singapore an early 1-0 lead.Singapore players storm the court to celebrate their bronze medal victory

Then, Parupalli Kashyap of India levelled the score to 1-1 by defeating Huang Chao 21-15 22-20 in 37 minutes.Shinta Mulia Sari and Yao Lei celebrate victory in their women's doubles match over Ashwini Ponnappa and Jwala Gutta of India.

But the Singaporean was able to restore their lead by winning the men`s doubles contest through Danny Chrisnanta and Chayut Triyachart after they knocked off the Indian pair of Akshay Dewalkar and Pranaav Jerry Chopra in straight sets 21-12,21-16.

The score was tied at 2-2 after world number 11 P.V Sindhu showed great poise and fight under pressure in the women’s singles match by outlasting the Singaporean player Liang Xiaoyu 24-22, 21-13.

With reigning Commonwealth Games champions Jwala and Ashwini left to take the courts, India were definitely touted as favorites by now to win the contest. The Indian pair defeated the same pair Shinta Mulia Sari and Yao Lei of Singapore four years ago en route to their Commonwealth Games title, and surely enough, the match had turned into an incredibly tense affair.

In the first set, the Singaporean girls were able to turn the table against their Indian rival with 21-17 victory. In the second set, Shinta Mulia Sari and Yao Lei demonstrated a gritty performance by holding their nerve against the relentless Indian pair; the Singaporean duo eventually outmuscled their way to a 29-27 nail-biting win to clinch the winning point for Singapore.
