Purple League: Kajang BC finally get first win

Kuala Lumpur: The Kajang BC finally had a reason to smile on Wednesday when they got their first win of the season.

After opening the season with 7 consecutive losses, Kajang beat Nusajaya BC 10-9 on Wednesday for their first win. Kajang started off on a bumpy road when the struggling Bong Guang Yik lost the first men’s singles to Allan Tai of Nusajaya, and Boon Wei Ying was no match for Yip Pui Yin of Nusajaya in women’s singles losing 5-11, 5-11, 6-11 in just 18 minutes.Congratulations to Kajang BC and Liliyana Natsir (third from the right) for the win on Wednesday (photo: Kajang BC)

Turnaround for Kajang happened after Victor Ong Jing Kai/Songphon Anugritayawon of Kajang absolutely dominated Lee Yan Sheng/Lin Woon Fu with a masterful straight-sets victory in the first men’s doubles.

With their blend of powers and athleticism, mixed doubles pair Afiat Yuris Wirawan/Liliyana Natsir of Kajang vanquished Kuan Beng Hong/Lai Chia Wen 11-6, 11-10, 11-4 in 20 minutes to level the score for Kajang at 6-6.

Although  Eizlan Shah Misfahul Muneer failed to extend the win for Kajang in the second men’s singles match, losing to Chong Yee Han 11-6,2-11,8-11,9-11; Kajang shuttlers Loh Wei Sheng/Ong Soon Hock edged out Chan Ren Cong/Lim Ming Chuen in the second men’s doubles to help Kajang recorded a hard-fought victory.

Kajang was ranked 11 following their win over Nusajaya.

Despite featuring Jan O Jorgensen in the lineups, Petaling BC lost 8-13 to Kepong BC in another tie that was held later in the day.
