Although we aren’t lawyers, when Badminton England decided to drop England’s No. 1 men’s pair and current World No. 11 Chirs Langridge (age 36)/ Marcus Ellis (age 31) from its Olympic Squad in favor of the World No. 18 Ben Lane (age 23)/ Sean Vendy (age 25), it seemed obvious that Badminton England has violated the UK’s Equality Act of 2010, being a clear example of direct discrimination by treating someone less favorably because of their age. UK Sport cut badminton funding for Tokyo 2020
London: Although Britons Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge won bronze medal in the men’s doubles event in Rio Olympics this summer, Badminton became one of five sports to lose all UK Sport funding for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
UK sports have invested £5.74m in the last Olympic cycle in badminton, and Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge were able to live up to expectation by taking home the bronze in men’s doubles. Unfortunately, Badminton was the only sport that won an Olympic medal this summer to have its funding removed.

Basel: Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong marched into the quarter-finals of the 2016 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Tournament on Thursday after they smashed down Puavaranukroh Dechapol/Kedren Kittinupong of Thailand in straight sets of 21-10, 21-16 in 28 minutes to secure a quarter-final match up against Marcus Ellis/Chris Langridge of England on Friday at St Jakobshalle Arena in Basel, Switzerland.
