Seoul: Shin Baek Cheol who partnered Ko Sung Hyun to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the history of badminton World Championship final by defeating their compatriots, World No. 1 men’s pair Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon-Seong 22-20, 21-23, 21-18 to win the world title in 2014, is no longer part of the Korean national team.

Seoul: At the Rio de Janeiro Summer Games, the world No. 1-ranked men’s badminton tandem of Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong are considered the biggest medal hope for South Korea. But they are not the only pair that the country is counting on for a medal.
Ko Sung-hyun and Kim Ha-na are ranked No. 2 in the mixed doubles. They have been gearing up for the Rio Games well, winning five tournaments last year and also triumphing at the German Open in March and the Singapore Open in April. The two finished runners-up at the Indonesia Open last week, but in the semifinals they beat the top-ranked Chinese pair of Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei.

Auckland: An inspired Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying fought back from a set down to defeat the World No. 4 Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na of Korea 21-19, 10-21, 24-22 in 68 minutes and progressed through to the mixed doubles final of the New Zealand Open badminton championships on Saturday.
The victory also helped Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying gained revenge against the Korean duo after their two consecutive defeats to the Koreans with the latest match at the first round of All-England two weeks ago. Chan/Goh will play Zheng Siwei/Li Yinhui of China for the mixed doubles title on Sunday.
