Singapore: Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon made a successful cameo appearance at the Southeast Asian Games on Friday, the world number five leading from the front in a crushing 3-0 victory over Malaysia in the women’s team badminton final. With the victory, Thailand successfully retained their title from the 2011 edition. Team events were not contested at the last Games in Myanmar in 2013.

New Delhi: Malaysia sailed through its second Thomas Cup match by defeating Germany 4-1. That win also exposed Malaysia’s deficiencies on its roster besides World No. one Lee Chong Wei. They’ll have to step up efforts at resolving the inconsistencies ahead of the Korea game on Wednesday.
In the Germany game, Lee Chong Wei had a hot start to overcome Marc Zwiebler 21-14, 21-8 in 37 minutes to pocket the first point. Malaysia played the first men’s doubles with scratch pair Tan Boon Heong/Tan Wee Kiong against Johannes Schoettler/Michael Fuchs. The Malaysian duo were stretched to three sets before notching the second point for Malaysia team with 13-21 21-17 21-18 victory. 
Chong Wei Feng was the better in second singles by winning a breathtaking game of 19-21 22-20 23-21 against Dieter Domke. Goh V Shem/Lim Khim Wah took care of Peter Kaesbauer/Josche Zurwonne 21-12 21-18 in 30 minutes for the fourth point; but, Daren Liew was once again the Achilles’ heel for Malaysia when he lost to Lukas Schmidt 20-22 10-21 in 35 minutes.

Korea: While their male counterparts were struggling, Malaysian women’s team got off to a good start at day one of Asian Badminton Championship (ABC).
Malaysia’s first women’s singles, world No. 49 Tee Jing Yi, defeated world No. 20 Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong in the first round of the ABC in Gimcheon, South Korea on Wednesday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Soon Huat – the back-up shuttler from Malaysia will be part of the Malaysia Thomas cup team after beating
Tan Chun Seang (former BAM player) 21-14, 21-13 in the three-day selections trials at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara on Friday. 
Misbun Ramdan Misbun and former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli pulled out of the trials due to personal health reasons.
During the trial, Soon Huat showed his fighting spirit and steely determination, and he is likely to be join the Thomas Cup team as the fourth men’s singles player.
