Wang Yihan, who was upset by Li Xuerui in the 2012 Olympic final, won 21-11, 21-19 in the Singapore Open women's singles final.
She was trailing the top seed Li Xuerui for most of the second game, but luck was on her side when she were able to tie the second game at 19-19, and then score two critical net points to seal the match.

Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold champion – Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Chayut Triyachart cruised to first round of OUE Singapore Open after winning against Indonesian duo – Saputra Albert and Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki with 21-15, 21-15; Ashton Chen and Robin Gonansa also qualified to the first round after knocking off Guru Prasad and Venkatesh Prasad from India 21-13, 21-17.

BIRMINGHAM: Tommy Sugiarto, winner of the Singapore Open last year and finalist at last month's Malaysian Open, was sent crashing out by a qualifier in the first round at the All England Open on Wednesday.
The world number three from Indonesia twice appeared to have turned the match around, and was foiled only in the last few points by Gao Huan, an impressively resilient Chinese player.
The 24-year-old from Liaoning won 21-13, 10-21, 21-18, making good use of his familiarity with the conditions from his two matches in the qualifying competition to squeeze out the best win of his career.

SINGAPORE – World badminton powerhouse China have confirmed a strong line-up for the upcoming US$300,000 OUE Singapore Open to be held at the 12,000-capacity Singapore Indoor Stadium from Apr 8 to 13.
Ahead of the closing deadline for registration on March 4, China was the first foreign country to confirm its participation for the tournament, which will be the fifth-stop in this year’s MetLife Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championship Superseries.
Among the star-studded field from China will be Chinese shuttlers like current world No 1 and reigning Olympic women’s singles champion Li Xuerui and world No 2 Wang Yi Han.

Singapore’s badminton body continued its attempted revival of the flagging sport with the announcement of a new title sponsor for the Singapore Open on Thursday evening.
The nation’s largest and longest-running badminton event, formerly known as the Li-Ning Open, will be named after local publicly-listed property giant OUE Limited in a one-year, six-figure deal.
OUE is worth over S$2 billion and best known for operating the Meritus and Mandarin hotel brands in Singapore, Malaysia and the US.
This is the company’s first foray into sports sponsorship, although executive chairman Stephen Riady has served as a patron of the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) since October 2010.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Singapore Open has been brought forward due to a hectic season in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) calendar this year.
Instead of June, the fifth leg of the Superseries will be held from April 8-13 and it will coincide with the World Junior Championships, which will be hosted in Alor Setar from April 7-18.
The Singapore dates had to be moved because some of the players will be involved in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow from July 21-Aug 4 and it will be followed by the World Championships from Aug 25-31.
