Genting Highlands: Playing without Chong Wei Feng, defending champions Kepong BC suffered a heartbreaking 10-11 defeat to Puchong United BC in the semi-finals of Resorts World Genting Champions Challenge on Saturday.
Kepong BC’s fortunes for winning the tie looked promising when Wei Nan defeated Malaysia’s national men’s singles shuttler, Daren Liew 11-9, 8-11, 9-11, 11-10, 11-9 to put Kepong BC ahead with 3-2.

Tokyo: Up-and-coming shuttler Kento Momota is rewriting Japan’s history in badminton at the international level at a remarkable pace.
The 20-year-old won a bronze medal in men’s singles in Jakarta on Saturday, bringing the country its first men’s singles medal in the World Championships.
“I woke up fresh in the morning, and I was light on my feet today,” Momota said after beating Hong Kong’s Wei Nan 21-6, 21-14 in the quarterfinals. “So I was able to play the match in a very positive frame of mind.”

Copenhagen: There wasn’t much drama for Malaysian shuttlers at the opening day of the World Championships in Copenhagen.
World number one Lee Chong Wei began his quest for the World Championships title with a dominant performance in the first round. It was his first tournament in two months, after losing to Kenichi Tago of Japan 16-21, 21-15, 16-21 at the semi-final of Indonesia Open last June.
