Wang Shixian, Tang Yuanting, Wang Zhengming & 4 others retire from Chinese team

Beijing: Besides Zhao Yunlei, Tian Qing, Yu Yang, and Wang Yihan who had gone public with their retirement decisions after the Rio Olympics, in a move that has sent shock waves across badminton community, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirmed on Tuesday that Chinese Badminton Association has submitted the retirement applications for 26-year-old Wang Shixian, 22-year-old Tang Yuanting, and 26-year-old Wang Zhengming.

Tian Qing retires from badminton

Beijing: Two-time women’s doubles world champion and London Olympic women’s doubles gold medalist Tian Qing has retired from badminton, saying she’s officially quitting the China national badminton team after spending 10-years with the Chinese senior team.

Yu Yang officially retires from badminton (gif)

Beijing: Yu Yang, who won the 2008 Beijing Olympic women’s doubles gold medal together with Du Jing, but was one of the eight players who were disqualified from the London Games for match throwing, wrote on her social media site Thursday that she has decided to quit the sport.

Tai Tzu Ying shocks Wang Yihan to win Indonesia Open

Jakarta: Chinese Taipei’s women’s singles shuttler Tai Tzu Ying stunned former World Champion Wang Yihan of China to lift her first ever Indonesia Open title on Sunday.

The unseeded Tai, who has been in sizzling form since defeated 2012 Olympic champion Li Xuerui in the second round, dashed past No. 4 seed Wang Yihan 21-17, 21-8 in 34 minutes for the title.

Wang Yihan: Not easy to beat Carolina Marin

Jakarta: Chinese women’s singles shuttler Wang Yihan pulled off the biggest upset on Saturday when she stunned World No. 1 Carolina Marin of Spain 16-21, 21-11, 21-17 in 78 minutes to advance to the final of 2016 BCA Indonesia Open Super Series Premier.

Both players gave their best performance of the tournament in the women’s singles semi-finals but Wang appeared struggling in the first set as she was trailing the whole set to go down 16-21.
