Sukma: Goh Jin Wei and Zulfadli Zulkiffli win gold
Kuala Lumpur: The 14-year-old Goh Jin Wei of Penang shocked the Badminton community in Malaysia on Tuesday with a 20-22, 22-20, 21-15 upset against Malaysia’s second women’s singles player Yang Li Lian of Selangor in a nail biting Sukma women’s singles final.
When asked about another teen sensation Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand after the match, Jin Wei refused to be compared to Ratchanok who won her first world junior title at the age of 14 and won the world championship last year when she was 18.

Sukma: Federal Territory crashes out of men’s team event
Kuala Lumpur: Federal Territory (FT) was the overall badminton champions at the 2012 Pahang Malaysia Games (Sukma), thanks for the help of former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli. However, FT suffered a 3-2 defeat to Selangor on Wednesday in the 2014 Perlis Sukma men’s team competition.
Zulfadli Zulkiffli who played the opening game for FT, was struggling in the first set, and went down 15-21 to Selangor’s Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub. In the second set, a suddenly alert and focused Zulfadli turned the tables on Mohd Azriyn, closed out the match by sweeping the next two games 21-10, 21-16.

Misbun Ramdan vs. Soon Huat for final spot in Malaysia’s Thomas Cup squad
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysia national champion Misbun Ramdan Misbun is one game away to be eligible to play in the Thomas Cup Finals, when his first opponent Zulfadli Zulkiffli failed to show up for the second selection trial at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara on Monday.
Ramdan will take on Goh Soon Huat on Tuesday and the winner will be the fourth member of the singles squad to the Thomas Cup Finals in New Delhi from May 18-25, together with Lee Chong Wei, Chong Wei Feng and Liew Daren. Zulfadli: I’ll get it right in two years (pic)
BIRMINGHAM: Former world junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli may have fallen behind the likes of Japan’s Kento Momota and Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, but he’s not giving up just yet.
All three competed in the World Junior Championships in 2011 and Zulfadli topped the class by winning the boys’ singles title. Today, the other two are way ahead of Zulfadli.
Momota is now ranked No. 15 in the world while Axelsen is No. 26. Zulfadli, on the other hand, is lagging behind at No. 56.

Assessment: Probably should not have left the national setup after winning the national title in 2012. Ramdan however has matured significantly and has been in good physical form too. He is also cool and calm like his father, Misbun Sidek. At 23, he should peak earliest compared to the rest.
