New Delhi: Sunday was a huge day for Indian badminton where their home shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth won their respective India Open Super Series titles in front of a capacity home crowd in New Delhi.
Saina Nehwal who became the first Indian women shuttler to ever achieve world number one ranking, got the better off former world champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand by winning 21-16 21-14 in 49 minutes.

India Open: Viktor Axelsen, Kidambi Srikanth to face off in final
New Delhi: When he stunned the Chinese superstar Lin Dan to a 21-17, 15-21, 21-18 victory in 78 minutes in the men’s singles quarter-final on Friday, Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia suddenly became the hot favorite to win this year’s India Open Super Series. Unfortunately, it was a sad end to the Indonesian on Saturday when he was forced to retire from the tournament after suffering a lower back injury when playing Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the men’s singles semi-final.

Viktor Axelsen: Learning mandarin is important for career

England: Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen is living proof that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
The 21-year-old is one of just three Europeans to have cracked the top 10 of the men’s badminton world rankings.
Axelsen is currently ranked ninth in the world. His fellow Danes, Jan O Jorgensen (second) and Hans-Kristian Vittinghus (eighth), are the other two.

Viktor Axelsen upsets Jan Jorgensen to win Copenhagen Masters
Copenhagen: Despite being crowned the Danish badminton player of the year of 2014 on December 28, world number three Jan Jorgensen appeared sluggish at the Copenhagen Masters final against his younger compatriot Viktor Axelsen on Sunday.
Jorgensen got off to a good start in the first set by racing to a quick 18-12 lead. However, Jorgensen seemed to have lost his focus all of the sudden and began to commit unforced errors at an alarming rate. Axelsen seized that opportunity to reel off 10 of the next 12 points and eventually took the first set 22-20.

Copenhagen: World number one Lee Chong Wei barely broke a sweat in the World Championships semi-finals seeing off the world number sixteen Viktor Axelsen of Denmark to secure his place in Sunday’s final.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Open champions Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem went down 18-21, 21-15, 16-21 to Ko Sung-hyun-Shin Baek-cheol of South Korea. This was a bitter blow to the pair because they were once ahead with 14-10 and 15-12 in the third set.
Their coach Rosman Razak said: “Khim Wah and V Shem played much better this game, they had their chances to seal the deal, and they were once in control by leading 15-12 in the rubber game. Then, they started making mistakes. The South Koreans took advantage of Kim-Wah-V Shem's mistakes and never look back”

Men's Doubles
Chai Biao and Hong Wei beat Fu HaiFeng and Zhang Nan in two sets and win the men's doubles final with 22:20 and 21:14.
Men's Singles
Viktor Axelsen won the men's singles in three long and very thrilling sets.
Viktor dominated the first set with few unforced errors and a strong defense against TIan Houwei from China. He won by 21:7.
Ouseph reaches Swiss Open last eight (pic)
Hounslow’s Rajiv Ouseph brushed aside Dutchman Eric Pang to reach the men’s singles quarter-finals at the Swiss Open.
Ouseph, the number four seed, will face eighth seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark after beating Pang 21-13 21-15.
Ouseph had previously knocked out China’s Huan Gao to reach the third round in Basel, where he beat Swiss player Lukas Nussbaumer in the opening round.
