Lin Dan wins Chinese Taipei Open

Taipei: Two time Olympic gold medalist Lin Dan was crowned men’s singles champion at the 2014 Taipei Open Badminton Championship that ended yesterday in Taipei arena. “Super Dan” got off slowly in the first set of men’s singles final and found himself trailing 1-4 quickly. After several high quality shots, Lin was able to level the score at 6-6 and 12-12, but Wang managed to stay with Lin Dan until 17-17 before Lin reel off to win the first set 19-21.

The second set was a one-sided affair in favor of Lin Dan. He did not give Wang any chance by leading 8-5, 11-6, 18-14, and 21-14 to clinch the Chinese Taipei Open title.

This was Lin’s fourth title of the year, after winning the Australian Open, Badminton Asia Championships, and China Masters. Lin would likely be able to move into top 10 of BWF men’s singles ranking after the win.

In the mixed doubles final, Liu Yuchen-Yu Xiaohan of China defeated Indonesians Alfian Eko Prasetya-Annisa Saufika 21-12, 21-14 to capture the title.

Indonesia’s Andrei Adistia-Hendra Aprida Gunawan triumph against China’s Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen 21-14, 16-21, 21-16 to win the men’s doubles title; while its women’s doubles Nitya Krishinda Maheswari-Greysia Polii upset China’s Wang Xiaoli-Yu Yang 21-18, 21-11 in the final.

Sung Ji-hyun of South Korea claimed the women’s singles title after 21-13, 21-18 victory over Liu Xin of China.
