Ravenshead duo Chris and Gabby Adcock’s victory at the Swiss Open Badminton Championships last weekend was further evidence of the rise of English badminton ahead of the Commonwealth Games and World Championships this summer.

The Adcocks defeated China’s Chai Biao and Tang Jianhua 21-17, 21-13 in Sunday’s mixed doubles final.

CHRIS and Gabby Adcock yesterday added the Swiss Open mixed doubles title to their Hong Kong Open triumph in late November.

The England stars defeated their second successive Chinese pair to claim the title in Basel.

Chris Adcock enjoyed a memorable day at the Yonex All England Championships in Birmingham as he safely navigated first round games in both the doubles and mixed doubles.

Adcocks progress to quarter-finals of Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships (pic)

Chris and Gabby Adcock are through to the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles at the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

The fifth seeds got England’s day three challenge at the 104th Championships off to the perfect start with a 21-13 21-15 win over German pair Peter Kaesbauer and Isabel Herttrich.

The Adcocks, who won their first Superseries title in Hong Kong in November, are bidding to become the first home winners since Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms in 2005.

All England Open: British stars set to feature in Birmingham (pic)

Britain’s leading contenders will be in action when the first round of the All England Open Championships begins in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Chris Adcock features in the mixed doubles with wife Gabby White, and in the men’s doubles with Andy Ellis.Britain's leading contenders will be in action when the first round of the All England Open Championships begins in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Adcock and White reached a career-high fifth in the world rankings when they won the Hong Kong Open last November.

World number one and top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia will bid for his third All-England title in the men’s singles.

Last year’s winner Chen Long of China defends the crown he won in 2013 at Lee’s expense.

European Team Championships: England lose to Denmark in final (pic)

England collected the silver medal at the European Team Championships after a 3-1 final defeat by Denmark in Basel.

Team captain Rajiv Ouseph gave England a solid start with a singles victory over Hans-Kristian Vittinghus.

But Andy Ellis and Chris Adcock, and Chris Langridge and Peter Mills, lost their doubles encounters while Toby Penty lost the second singles match.Adcock and Ellis were unable to follow that up as they suffered a 21-17 19-21 21-14 defeat by Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe.

"We were here to win, but also to measure our level, and I'm proud of the silver," said England coach Jakob Hoi.

"Being in the final gave us the opportunity to compete against the best and that's what we are here for."

England defeat Germany to reach Euro Team final (pic)

England's men beat Germany 3-1 to set up a meeting with Denmark in the final of the European Team Championships.

Rajiv Ouseph won his singles match while doubles pairs Chris Adcock and Andy Ellis, and Chris Langridge and Peter Mills, were both victorious.England took command of the contest when Adcock and Ellis defeated Michael Fuchs and Johannes Schoettler 21-19 21-19 in the first doubles encounter.

It means England will collect silver for the first time in the competition after taking bronze two years ago.

Victory over the Danes on Sunday would also give England their first gold in a European team event since 1984.
