Olympic silver-medallist Gail Emms will compete in the National Badminton Championships in Milton Keynes next month.

Emms will partner three-times champion Ella Tripp in the women’s doubles draw, as well as current England international and 2013 finalist Marcus Ellis in the mixed doubles event.Gail Emms

World number five pair, Chris and Gabby Adcock, lead the nation’s big names who will be heading for the arena: stadiummk next month for the first English National Championships to be held at stadium:mk on February 8 and 9.

Yonex signs deal to sponsor badminton English National Championships (pic)

Badminton England has announced sports equipment firm Yonex has signed a multi-year deal to become the official sports equipment partner of the English National Championship series.

This year's Championships are due to take place at stadium:mk in Milton Keynes on February 8 and 9.Rajiv Ouseph will be taking part in the English National Championships which will be sponsored by Yonex

Badminton England is based in Milton Keynes and this will be the first time the Championships will be staged in the city after taking place at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester for the past nine years.

Japanese firm Yonex has a long association with the sport of badminton and the company has been a long-term partner of Badminton England.

The Adcocks are a happy couple on and off the court (pic)

BUKIT JALIL: It’s rare to see a couple travel the world and play good badminton together.

But that is the adventurous journey of mixed doubles shuttler Chris Adcock and his wife Gabrielle.

Just a month after their marriage, the English pair won their first Super Series title in Hong Kong.

And on Thursday, the Adcocks stormed into the quarter-finals of the Maybank Malaysian Open after beating Germany’s Michael Fuchs-Birgit Michels 23-21, 16-21, 21-6 at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Milton Keynes badminton star Adcock bows out in Korea semi-finals (pic)

MILTON Keynes badminton star Chris Adcock failed in his bid to become the first English player to appear in two Superseries finals when he and Andy Ellis fell in the men’s doubles semi-finals of the Victor Korea Open in Seoul.

Ellis and Adcock, who won the Yonex Sunrise Open mixed doubles title with wife Gabby in November, were beaten 21-11 21-9 by four-times world champion and London 2012 winner Fu Haifeng and current partner Hong Wei.Chris Adcock

The Chinese pair got off to a flying start by opening up a 7-0 lead and, although Adcock and Ellis recovered to within three points at 9-6, Fu and Hong finished the game with a five-point burst from 16-11.

Chong Wei’s ‘sick’ of being the go-to-guy (pic)

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei has had enough of being the sole flag bearer for Malaysian badminton on the international scene.

And on Friday, after reaching the men’s singles’ semi-finals of the Korean Open in Seoul, he issued a clarion call to all his team-mates – especially the younger ones – to wake up and step out of their comfort zone.

The 31-year-old Chong Wei bulldozed past a hapless Du Pengyu of China 21-9, 21-12 in just 35 minutes to set up a meeting with Japan’s Kenichi Tago in the semi-finals on Saturday.

He is the only Malaysian survivor in the season-opener after Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem went down with a whimper against top seeds Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen of Denmark in the men’s doubles quarter-finals.

The Malaysians lost 10-21, 9-21 in just 31 minutes.

Two-time Olympic Games silver medallist Chong Wei said that it was time everyone stopped depending on him, starting with the Korean Open.

Badminton: Milton Keynes-based Chris and Gabby Adcock to lead England bid for glory in Korea (pic)

MILTON Keynes-based Chris and Gabby Adcock will lead England’s top players straight into New Year action when they tackle the Victor Korea Open from tomorrow (Wednesday)

The Adcocks go into a big badminton year boosted by their rise to number five in the world on the back of their Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open Superseries triumph in November.

Now they head for Seoul for the opening event in the 2014-2017 BWF Superseries cycle under the circuit’s new title sponsors MetLife.

The Adcocks will be keen to maintain their world ranking to ensure a good seeding at the European Championships, Commonwealth Games and World Championships, which all take place between April and August.

But first the focus is on the Korean tournament, followed a week later by the year’s first Premier Superseries event, the Maybank Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur. When they return home the Adcocks will turn their attention to the English National Championships in Milton Keynes in early February when they aim to recapture the mixed doubles title they won in 2012.
