Bronze for PV Sindhu and Jwala-Ashwini in Asian Badminton Championships

Korea: P.V. Sindhu and women’s doubles pair Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa of India all settled for bronze medals in the Badminton Asia Championships as they all lost the semi-finals to teir Chinese opponents on Saturday.

The 18-year-old Sindu fought hard for one hour and 18 minutes before losing to the two-time reinging All England champion Shixian 21-15 20-22 12-21 in the women’s singles competition. Sindhu, Jwala-Ashwini are in Asian Badminton Championships semis

P.V. Sindhu and the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won their quarterfinal matches respectively to reach semifinals in the women’s singles and women’s doubles events of Asian Badminton Championship on Friday.

PV Sindhu lost the first game 14-21 but came back strongly to win the next two games 21-13, 21-10 in close to an hour match against Ongbumrungpan Busanan of Thailand.

Asia Badminton Championships: India’s Sindhu, Gurusaidutt advance to quarter-finals

Gimcheon, Korea: The 18 year-old sensation P.V. Sindhu and R.M.V. Gurusaidutt led India’s charge into the singles quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Championships with hard-fought three-game wins respectively in the women’s and men’s singles competition of the $200,000 event today.

World number 10 Sindhu, finally won her match up against Japan’s Eriko Hirose for the first time in four meetings with 14—21 21—13 21—18 win in an hour and 13 minutes.

NEW DELHI: With the absence of Saina Nehwal, P. V. Sindhu and K. Srikanth will lead the Indian charge at the $200,000 Asian Badminton championship which will start at Gimcheon, Korea on Tuesday.

Parupalli Kashyap moves up to world No 19, PV Sindhu drops out of top 10

In the newly released BWF ranking, Indian men’s singles, Parupalli Kashyap after his semifinal and quarterfinal finishes at Swiss Open and India Open Super Series respectively, he moved up four places to the 19th place.

Another Indian shuttler, national champion Kidambi Srikanth, who defeated world number 10 Nyugen Tien Minh of Vietnam in the Singapore Open's second round, remains static at 25th.

Singapore Open: P.V Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth cruise to quarterfinals

18-year-old Sindhu, who won the World Championship bronze, Malaysia Open and Macau Open last year, prevailed over Japan's Shizuka Uchida 21-17 17-21 21-16 in a women's singles second round. The Indian will take on World No. 3 Yihan Wang on Friday.

In the first set, Sindhu was able to keep the pressure on the world number 113 Japanese Shizuka by maintaining her lead at 11-10, 14-10, then 19-14 and eventually took the set.

Saina slips to ninth in world badminton rankings (pic)

A second round loss at the Malaysia Open Super Series Premier last week saw India’s Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal drop a place to No.9 in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.

The Olympic bronze medallist, however, has a good chance to climb up once again if she progresses to the semifinals or final of the ongoing India Grand Prix Gold in Lucknow.

Saina fought hard before going down 21-16 10-21 19-21 to Yao Xue of China, while Sindhu lost to sixth seed Yeon Ju Bae of Korea 16-21 19-2.

Kuala Lumpur: India's campaign in the women's singles came to an end at the USD 500,000 Malaysia Super Series Premier badminton event after both Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu lost their respective second round matches, here on Thursday.

Olympic bronze medalist Saina fought hard before going down 21-16 10-21 19-21 to lower-ranked Yao Xue of China in a 56-minute contest, while Sindhu lost to sixth seed Yeon Ju Bae of Korea 16-21 19-21 in 45 minutes at the Putra Stadium.
