Jakarta: Defending champion Carolina Marin of Spain will take on India’s World No 2 Saina Nehwal in the women’s singles final at the World Championships in Jakarta. Carolina, the top seed, edged Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea 21-17, 15-21, 21-16 while Saina defeated Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri 21-17, 21-17.

Dubai: Taiwan’s Tai Tzu Ying claimed the women’s singles title with a 21-17, 21-12 win over South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun at the BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals on Sunday.
Making up for her failed attempt last year, Tai showed an early resolve as she led 11-3 at the first change-over. Sung tried to use her superior reach and out-fox her shorter opponent. But Tai showed versatility often catching Sung off-guard to take the first set 21-17.

Lin Dan won his third and a hard-fought title in men’s singles at the Asian Badminton Championships against Sho Sasaki of Japan 14-21, 21-9, 21-15 in the seesaw
final that took 66 minutes in Gimcheon. This was his back to back win after last week’s China Masters title. Lin got off to a sluggish start in the first set, Sho Sasaki took advantage of Lin Dan’s sloppy mistakes, and reeled off the first set with a 21-14 win.

BIRMINGHAM: Japan were the big winners of the German Open with women’s singles shuttler Sayaka Takahashi pulling off the biggest upset.
Sayaka who is currently the top-ranked Japanese woman at No. 13 in the world, proved her mettle as as she dumped top seed and world No. 5 Sung Ji-hyun of South Korea for the title in Mulheim.
Sayaka won the closely contested final 21-17, 8-21, 21-12 in 53 minutes.
Women’s doubles pair Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi also lived up to their top billing as they overcame the challenge of Jung Kyung-eun-Kim Ha-na.
