Kuala Lumpur: Last week, while trying to mediate the huge fallout between president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff and Rashid Sidek, Youth and Sports Minister of Malaysia Khairy Jamaluddin also wanted BAM to disburse the Coaches Incentive Scheme (SGAR) payment amounting to RM16,000 to the badminton squad coaches for assisting to take the country to the Thomas Cup finals in May.

Razif has harsh words for Mahaleel
Kuala Lumpur: Former Malaysian national coach Razif Sidek was unhappy and slammed the irresponsible attitude of President of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff who pointed fingers at the coach following poor performance of men’s singles, Daren Liew at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow two weeks ago.

Elyas Omar to BAM: Stop Arguing!
Kuala Lumpur: Former president of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Tan Sri Elyas Omar urged current president of BAM Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff and men’s singles coach Rashid Sidek to resolve their conflicts immediately. Tan Sri Elyas said the attitude of pointing fingers at each other after the poor performance of men’s singles at Glasgow is otherwise inappropriate, and both parties must share the responsibility equally.

Rashid Sidek dropped from World Champs Squad
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s chief coach Rashid Sidek was excluded from the Copenhagen World Championships after falling out with president of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff.
“The president called a management meeting on Wednesday, introduced Hendrawan as my replacement to the World Championships coaching staff,” said Rashid. The 1996 Atlanta Olympic bronze medalist also claimed that he had not been informed by BAM about that meeting.

Finger-pointing after Malaysian men’s singles’ loss at Glasgow
Kuala Lumpur: On Monday, president of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff voiced his unhappiness over the poor performances of men’s singles players at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. He also denied that he and other association members interfered with the shuttlers selection process. Althought he didn’t refer to a specific name, he clearly targeted the men’s singles head coach, Rashid Sidek, who was responsible for picking players to replace Datuk Lee Chong Wei at Glasgow.

Glasgow 2014: P. Kashyap vs Derek Wong in final
Glasgow: Rashid Sidek, Wong Choong Hann, Mohd Hafiz Hashim and Lee Chong Wei have created the Malaysia badminton dynasty that garnered 6 men’s singles gold medals consecutively since the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games. However, the men’s singles gold medal chase was left wide open with the exit of Chong Wei Feng and Daren Liew in quarter-finals on Friday.

Malaysia plays down Commonwealth Games expectations
National Sports Council (NSC) of Malaysia only expects Malaysia to win two gold medals in badminton events at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
However, Rashid Sidek, the national singles coach holds a different opinion that he thinks Malaysia shuttlers could win more.
“I think we can win more than two gold medals, we are hoping to win at least four golds like we did over each of the past two Commonwealth games.”

Day 1 of Thomas-Uber Cup training camp helped lift shuttlers’ spirits
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s shuttlers were dripping with sweat, training hard and enjoying the atmosphere at the first day of Thomas-Uber Cup Finals training camp.
Lee Chong Wei was reported to have a little discomfort on his left leg but his coach, Rashid Sidek played down that incident as minor problem. 
“Chong Wei told us about it and after a diagnosis, it’s no really worrisome” said Rashid, who is also the Thomas-Uber Cup project lead. Of course, everyone knows the importance of Chong Wei for the Thomas Cup team. He is the only player in the roster that can guaranteed a victory.
