East Java: Soo Teck Zhi marched into semi-finals at Indonesia International Challenge after pulling off one of the biggest upsets yet on the men’s side on Friday. The No. 7 seed, 20-year-old Malaysian defeated No. 1 Firman Abdul Kholik of Indonesia 13-21, 21-12, 21-13 in 78 minutes. This was Soo’s second career win over Kholik after he managed to beat the Indonesian at last year’s Malaysia Kuching International Challenge. In order to book a final berth, Soo will have to get past the Athens Olympic bronze medalist Sony Dwi Kuncoro on Saturday.

Jakarta: Unseeded Zulfadli Zulkiffli sailed through his opening match at the Jakarta World Championships on Monday, with a stunning 21-5, 22-20 win over sixth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the men’s singles first round.
A former world junior champion, Zulfadli Zulkiffli, based his strategy on quickness, and heavy dose of smashes that ended up befuddling Chou and bedazzling spectators in the Istora Senayan Sports Complex, Jakarta.

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian badminton superstar, Lee Chong Wei, and his mixed doubles partner Vivian Hoo, both playing equally well to stun the top seeds Tan Aik Quan/Lai Pei Jing 21-9, 21-12 in the semi-finals of Perak Open on Wednesday.
Lee Chong Wei and Vivian Hoo are no strangers to teaming up together, having taken home the 2012 Maybank National Circuit Selangor Open title after defeated No. 1 mixed double in Malaysia, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying 21-15, 27-25. Lee/Hoo will take on second seeds Tan Chee Tean/Shevon Lai in the final on Thursday. Tan Chee Tean/Shevon Lai won a hard-fought three-set semi-finals against Tan Kian Meng/Peck Yen Wei with 21-13, 15-21, 21-9 in 49 minutes.

Kuala Lumpur: In the battle for the third and fourth place of Axiata Cup, Malaysia lost to Asia All-Stars based on overall points scored.
All-Stars Asia and Malaysia were tied 2-2 after each team won two of the four matches played. Nonetheless, victory went to Asia All-Stars based on the overall number of points scored in the games played when they collected 147 points compared to only 140 garnered by the Malaysia squad.

Kuala Lumpur: Indonesian advanced to the Axiata Cup final even though they settled for a 2-2 draw with Malaysia in the semi-final of 2014 Axiata Cup held in Kuala Lumpur Cheras Stadium on Saturday. The 2012 Axiata Cup Champion Indonesia qualified for the final based on a tournament format which Indonesia had won two more games than Malaysia.
