Korea: P.V. Sindhu and women’s doubles pair Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa of India all settled for bronze medals in the Badminton Asia Championships as they all lost the semi-finals to teir Chinese opponents on Saturday.

Korea: Malaysian ended their journey at the Badminton Asia Championships on Friday when Low Juan Shen/Nelson Heg Wei Keat went down to Shi Longfei/Chen Zhuofu of China 21-18, 21-13; while Anscelly Amelia Alicia/Soong Fie Cho faltered against Indian pair Ashwini Ponnappa/Jwata Gutta 21-12, 21-12.
In the men’s singles, Lin Dan took 34 minutes to defeat Wei Nan of Hong Kong 21-10, 21-7 to cruise into the semi-finals of the men’s singles at the Badminton Asia Championships.

P.V. Sindhu and the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won their quarterfinal matches respectively to reach semifinals in the women’s singles and women’s doubles events of Asian Badminton Championship on Friday.
PV Sindhu lost the first game 14-21 but came back strongly to win the next two games 21-13, 21-10 in close to an hour match against Ongbumrungpan Busanan of Thailand.

Hyderabad is the home of Indian badminton players….many successful players come from this South Indian city.
One who stands out is Jwala Gutta. It was in the year 2000 when Jwala won the national junior championship when she was 17…but later she became iconic as a doubles player.
Born to a Chinese mother and an Indian father, Jwala Gutta first came into limelight when she won the Under-13 national championship in 1996. Jwala credits her parents and her coach for her success.

The long-standing deadlock between India's ace doubles shuttler Jwala Gutta and the Badminton Association of India (BAI) has ended. The national federation has dropped all the charges against the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist.
It was last week in New Delhi when the impasse is reported to have ended when she met BAI president Akhilesh Das Gupta after the 78th senior national championships.
"I am very happy with the decision BAI has taken. I will be playing as a part of the Indian team in future tournaments too. It will be an honour to represent the country as always," Jwala was quoted as saying to the Times of India on Friday.
