Glasgow: After winning the gold medal in badminton mixed team event last week, Malaysia received two more golds in both men and women’s doubles badminton events on Sunday.
In women’s doubles final, Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo’s resilience and determination eventually paid off as they saved five game points when the defending champion Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa was leading 20-16, and then 21-20 in the second set. The duo managed to come from behind to triumph 21-17, 23-21 in 41 minutes.

Glasgow 2014: Malaysia’s “Doubles” shot at gold
Glasgow: Despite the disappointments of missing out on the gold of men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles, Malaysia still have two more chances to win gold – through men’s doubles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong and women’s doubles Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo.
In the semi-finals, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong shook off a slow start to beat England’s Chris Adcock-Andrew Ellis of England 21-19, 21-19. The Malaysian pair has looked sloppy at times.

Glasgow: National singles Chong Wei Feng who was given the task to step into the shoes of injured Datuk Lee Chong Wei stayed on track to win the men’s single gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. He has put on a clinic in the round of 16 to brush aside Tony Stephenson from Northern Ireland 21-15, 21-10. He will play R.M.V Gurusaidutt from India in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Kuala Lumpur: Men’s doubles coach of Malaysia Pang Cheh Chang is making the big move to nurture three strong men’s doubles for a shot at Olympic gold medal.
“Malaysia has always been relying on only one pair, while other countries such as Indonesia, China, and Korea have more than one strong pairs. We should not put all eggs in one basket, like we did in 2012 Olympics, where the country put too much pressure and hope on Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, they failed to deliver under too much pressure eventually,” said Cheh Chang.

On Friday, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong’s sensation run was ended by Lee Yong-dae-Yoo Yeon-seong of Korea. Goh/Tan lost their first set 21-15 to Lee-Yoo easily, but was able to give the Korean a run for their money before losing the second set 24-22.

Sydney: Malaysia’s scratch pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong continued their impressive run at the Australian Open badminton championships to stun sixth seeds Markis Kido-Gideon Markus Fernaldi of Indonesia 19-21, 21-11, 21-12 in 33 minutes to reach the quarter-finals in Sydney on Thursday. They will play Lee Yong Dae-Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea who are eyeing their third back to back Superseries titles.
The Korean who won Japan Open two weeks ago and Indonesia Open last week overcame a tight match against Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Noriyasu Hirata of Japan 21-18, 20-22, 21-12 in the second round.

Indonesia Open: Lee Chong Wei is last Malaysian standing
Jakarta: World number one will take on Kenichi Tago for a spot in the final of Indonesia Open.
Coming into the quarter final, Chong Wei who is aiming to go down the record books as the man with six Indonesia Open titles was given a lot of troubles from Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark. Chong Wei was trailing 13-18 in the first set before completed an eight points comeback to win the game. In the second set, the top seed gave one of the finest performance in the ongoing tournament by dusting off Vittinghus 21-11.

Jakarta: World number one Lee Chong Wei who will be chasing his sixth Indonesia Open title, breezed through his second round match rapidly and easily with 21-4, 21-16 thumping of Frenchman Brice Leverdez. Unfortunately, luck was not on Chong Wei Feng and Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif’s side on Thursday.
Chong Wei Feng went down to Kenichi Tago of Japan 18-21, 15-21, and Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif was not be able to reproduce his stunning first round form by losing to third seed Jan O Jorgensen 21-18 21-11 in 30 minutes.

Boon Heong on Commonwealth: Why not me?
Kuala Lumpur: Tan Boon Heong has vented his disappointment at not being selected for next month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Boon Heong won the gold with Koo Kien Keat at the previous Commonwealth but was excluded from this year’s edition. Instead, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has chosen Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong for the men’s doubles.
“I don’t have any problems with my teammates, I was just hoping for an equal and fair player selection process. I did ask Cheh Chang about this, his answer was the decision has been made.”
