Malaysian professional badminton league to launch in September

Kuala Lumpur: A new Malaysian badminton league called Malaysia Purple League (MPL) is set to get underway later this year (from September 2014 to February 2015) which will see twelve franchises taking part in the RM2 million overall prize money competition. The Malaysia Purple League is a good way to search of a worthy successor to world number one singles player Datuk Lee Chong Wei

The MPL will feature the best Malaysia players such as superstar Lee Chong Wei and new, emerging talent, as well as some of the great badminton stars from China, Korea and Europe. The league is expected to feature Lin Dan, Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng, Lee Yong-dae and Markis Kido.

(Video) China, Korea each win 2 titles at Asian Badminton Championships

Lin Dan won his third and a hard-fought title in men’s singles at the Asian Badminton Championships against Sho Sasaki of Japan 14-21, 21-9, 21-15 in the seesawLin Dan shows off his 2014 Asian Badminton Championship gold medal final that took 66 minutes in Gimcheon. This was his back to back win after last week’s China Masters title. Lin got off to a sluggish start in the first set, Sho Sasaki took advantage of Lin Dan’s sloppy mistakes, and reeled off the first set with a 21-14 win.

Lin Dan will face Sho Sasaki in Asia Badminton Championships Final

Korea: Lin Dan is on course to a back to back title after he reached the men’s singles final at the Asia Badminton Championships (ABC) on Saturday.

Things looked so easy for Lin by beating compatriot Liu Kai 21-14, 21-13 in the semi-finals in just 27 minutes. Lin Dan has been so dominance in ABC, as he has yet to lose a set and win all his games with less than 34 minutes in Gimcheon.Sho Sasaki finised 5th at London Olympics.

In the men’s singles, Lin Dan took 34 minutes to defeat Wei Nan of Hong Kong 21-10, 21-7 to cruise into the semi-finals of the men’s singles at the Badminton Asia Championships.

Korea: Malaysia’s women’s doubles shuttlers Amelia Anscelly-Soong Fie Cho kept calm and focused to beat Hsieh Pei-chen-Cheng Wen-hsing of Taiwan 21-14, 21-14 in a 30-minute second round match to set up a last eight clash against India’s former World Championships bronze medalists Ashwini Ponnappa-Jwala Gutta of India. Woon Khe Wei (right) and Vivian Hoo crashed out of Asian Badminton ChampionshipsThe pair saved Malaysia’s blushes on a day most of the other Malaysians fell by the wayside.
