Great Wall of China in World Championships
Kuala Lumpur: What was Badminton World Federation (BWF) thinking by allowing four Chinese players to compete in the World Championships, Copenhagen this coming August? On Thursday, BWF has decided to allow Tian Houwei to play in the World Championships after Singaporean Ashton Chen withdrew from the competition.

BIRMINGHAM, England (Reuters) – China maintained their dominance of the All-England Badminton Championships on Saturday although Lee Chong Wei stole most of the attention at the National Indoor Arena.
The Malaysian raced into a 5-0 lead in the first game of his men's singles semi-final before Korean Son Wan Ho rallied to take it 21-14.
Olympic silver medallist Wei then hit back to claim the next two games 21-19 21-15 to secure his place in the final.
He next faces title holder Chen Long in a repeat of last year's final after he disposed of fellow Chinese Wang Zhengmong 21-17 21-14.

China start planning early for Thomas Cup (pic)
BUKIT JALIL: It's only January but it’s no secret that China are already warming up for the Thomas Cup that will be held in New Delhi in May.
China have an abundance of talented singles shuttlers – Chen Long, Wang Zhengming and Du Pengyu to name a few.
Despite dominating the world’s premier team event since 2004, China’s men’s doubles has always been perceived as a weak link.
But if anything, China, under the stewardship of renowned head coach Li Yongbo, have already put ahead plans to strengthen their choices in the doubles.
Four-time world champion Fu Haifeng has already started partnering the younger Hong Wei, with the pair reaching the final of the Korean Open last week, before losing to Denmark’s Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen.

BUKIT JALIL: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei admitted that he has yet to peak after struggling to overcome China’s Wang Zhengming in the second round of the Maybank Malaysian Open.
The 31-year-old Chong Wei was given a proper workout by the former world junior champion before prevailing 21-17, 21-18 at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jali on Thursday.
“I didn’t play my best today against Zhengming,” said Chong Wei.
“It’s tough taking on these China players because there are so many of them and there’s only one of me.
“But what’s important is that I win the match and continue to focus on my next match.

BUKIT JALIL: When all others fell on the wayside, the ever-dependable world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei stayed rock steady to reach the men’s singles second round at the Maybank Malaysian Open at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
On Wednesday, top seed Chong Wei hardly raised a sweat when he disposed of Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark 21-7, 21-13 in just 35 minutes.
He will take on former world junior champion Wang Zhengming of China in the second round on Thursday.
Chong Wei is once again the sole survivor in the men’s singles after both Liew Daren and Chong Wei Feng were sent spinning out of the tournament.
