Jakarta: Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei came into Thursday afternoon’s men’s singles third round at the World Championships on a 13-match win streak against his opponent, No. 8 seed Wang Zhengming of China. In the end it was Lee who extended his streak over Wang to 14 matches, beating the Chinese 21-17, 21-19 to advance to the quarter-finals, where he will play Hu Yun who defeated No. 3 seed Kidambi Srikanth in the men’s singles third round on Thursday.

Beijing: The head coach of Chinese National Badminton Team, Li Yongbo has attempted to take the pressure off his players ahead of the World Championships, saying the Chinese badminton team does not set any hard targets at the World Championships that will be held in Jakarta from August 10 – August 16. It would not surprise him if some of the young Chinese players who will play their first ever World Championships could end up as world champions.

Taipei: Malaysian badminton superstar Lee Chong Wei will face off in a Friday quarter-final against world No. 1 Chen Long, whom he lost to in last year’s World Championship final at Copenhagen.
In his first match on Thursday, the unseeded Lee Chong Wei produced a solid performance against tenth seed Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia by winning the first set with 21-12. While Lee trailed for most of the second set, he picked up his game when it mattered, rallying from 13-18 down to reel off the next 8 points to survive the stirring challenge from Sugiarto.

Paris: World number 13 Taiwanese Chou Tien-chen, won the French Open on Sunday by defeating Wang Zhengming of China 10-21, 25-23 and 21-19 after a 3-set men’s singles final thriller at the Coubertin stadium.
Wang Zhengming who held a 2-0 career meeting record against Chou Tien Chen prior to the final, got off to a good start to break Chou Tien Chen in the first game by taking a 7-2 lead, and continued his dominance to win the first set 21- 10 easily.
